The Ambassador Hotel in August of 1989, less than eight months after it closed. The Los Angeles Conservancy promised not to pursue landmark status for the 1921 hotel in exchange for having one year to find a buyer. It remains unclear whether the Conservancy made an effort to find one during that grace period. What is clear is that the organization made a very poor deal.
