“Films may now portray love more realistically without being offensive. Formerly, a great deal of exaggeration of gesture and apparent emotion was necessary to make a love scene effective, because the screen lacked realism. Now screen lovemaking has all that the stage has in sound and the illusion of flesh-and-blood reality, and in addition, it has the closeup. That is the real thriller. As a consequence, it is so easy to exaggerate lovemaking in the new film medium, and make scenes either ridiculous or offensive. On the other hand, added facilities for expression, rightly handled, enable the demonstrations of love to be portrayed without a violation of good taste.”Vivienne Segal (or her publicist)
