”I got too big for my britches. I wanted too much money and when it was not forthcoming, I quit.” — Madge Bellamy
Source: Her obituary from the New York Times, 1990.
“After years as a star for the Fox company, Madge Bellamy‘s contract has been terminated, with a long period yet to run. The girl who was supposed to be the highest priced actress on the Fox lot will be free to go to other studios for her future vehicles. Little was said about the disagreement that took place between Madge and the executives of the Fox company, save that ‘Miss Bellamy violated her contract in one or two clauses.’….Unofficially, it was hinted at the studio that Miss Bellamy‘s case might come under the class of those actresses who have contract weight limits, but get a bit too plump to suit their employers.” — George Shaffer in 1929
