“The key word for me is ‘inspiration.’ He is a leader by inspiration. He sets an example. It’s quite important that people realize that I don’t see him as a glad-handing showoff, a one-man vigilante force who rights every wrong. Basically, he’s a pacifist, a man who comes along and says, ‘What can I do to help?’ He stands on the sidelines until there is real trouble. He does not want to get involved unless it’s absolutely necessary because he thinks people should learn to make their own decisions.”Christopher Reeve on Superman

“In terms of achievements, he’s a very modest man. He’s really offhand about what he does because, if you think about it, there’s really nothing special about him except that he’s on the wrong planet. Had he grown up on his home planet of Krypton, he might have been a plummer. He’d be nobody special on Krypton. Therefore, he’s not impressed with himself. He’s quite at ease, he’s relaxed, he’s very direct, he has a sense of humor, he’s got a clear gaze, he looks people right in the eye, he’s got peace of mind. He’s not neurotic, he’s not messed up in his mind, and that in itself is super. To find somebody these who’s not all convoluted, complicated, neurotic, and not all wound up and tense is really quite something. If you meet these people in real life, they’re very appealing, strong. There’s a kind of light out of their eyes that is very magnetic.”Christopher Reeve
