“Playing With Fire” Poster taken inside the haunted Victorian Rose Bed & Breakfast in Ventura, CA. A fantastically beautiful photo waiting to hang on your wall.
The Victorian Rose began as a Victorian Steeple Church affectionately known as St. John’s when it opened in 1890. Though no longer a place of worship, the building is the only remaining Victorian steeple church building left in Ventura. Part of that reason for its survival has to do with the church’s failure to attract a large congregation which would have necessitated a larger, more modern place of worship. That being said, the building itself is a local landmark and a much loved building in Ventura — ghosts and all.
Although the Victorian Rose is now for sale, its history and ghost legends are discussed in the book HAUNTED BY HISTORY VOL. 1: SEPARATING THE FACTS AND LEGENDS OF EIGHT HISTORIC HOTEL AND INNS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA by Craig Owens. Did you know that it recently won an award and received a Publishers Weekly star review?
Craig Owens and his crew were given special permission to shoot and investigate inside the building while it was an operational bed & breakfast. In fact, Owens was the last photographer to conduct a professional shoot there.
Why did he stage elaborate photos in haunted bed and breakfasts like the Victorian Rose? Simple. He feels that renting an entire location for three-four days to conduct a multi day photo shoot/paranormal investigation is the best way to test haunted claims. Plus who can deny the beauty and eeriness of a 19th century former church in the wee hours of the morning?
Did any ghosts check in with Owens and his crew at the Victorian Rose? All the info is in the book…plus a detailed history and the building’s real history, not the info usually found online.
